Luckily, Eric Jackson had a great idea and he invented LockLaces. They are also ideal for kids because most of them can’t actually tie their shoes very well so this technology would help them to keep themselves safe and sound.

Here’s the story behind this great concept.
1. How did you come up with the idea of locklaces?
Lock Laces™ were born in 1997, when Eric Jackson, a track athlete, became frustrated with his shoelaces coming untied during races and decided to come up with a solution. One day, Eric went home after practice and fashioned the first pair of Lock Laces™ out of two bungee cords and a two cord locks. When his friends kept asking him to make them a pair, he knew that his solution had retail potential.
The next year, Eric filed for and obtained a patent, set up shop, and began selling Lock Laces™. In the beginning, he ran his company, Street Smart LLC, from his mother’s basement in Baltimore, MD. In 2011, Eric partnered with Frank Sutton and Positive Distribution LLC, and together they grew Lock Laces™ into an international brand. Today, Frank and the team at Positive Distribution LLC are working hard to get Lock Laces™ into the shoes of everyone that needs them!
2. Why are they so popular and how did people perceive them from the fashion point of view?
Lock Laces were first marketed to Tri-athletes where the emphasis on the brand was placed on the product’s utility. After so many people began to wear them in their athletic wear, and as athletic wear became the new casual, Lock Laces were born into fashion.
3. What the next step in developing this product? New designs, new features, etc
We are always thinking of new colors and designs. Our most recent release is our Boot Lock Laces. They are 72 inches opposed to 48 inches, and they have a camo patterned weave in them. They are perfect for those who like trending camo accessories, or for those who are active outdoors.
4. Do you plan on designing locklaces for more elegant shoes too? If not, why?
Lock Laces were designed for the athletic market but they can fit virtually any shoe. So some people do wear them in more formal shoes but we have not designed laces specifically for formal shoes. This is something we might consider for the future.
5. We think this is the best idea for kids because most of them they can’t tie their laces. But wouldn’t you think about adding some cartoon characters on some special designs for kids?
Lock Laces are a great solution for kids! This product was not created with the idea that shoe-tying should be obsolete, or that our product is only for people who cannot tie their shoes but we find traditional shoelaces to be time consuming, frustrating, and insecure compared to Lock Laces. These qualities make them great for kids, whether they can tie their shoes or not. We think one of the best parts about our brand is that any person of any age can use our Lock Laces. They are one size fits all and the colors we offer cover the bases of most shoes.
6. Describe a stylish outfit that it’s accessorized with locklaces.
Check out our Instagram! We have outfits ranging from jeans to track shorts. Any outfit you imagine wearing sneakers, you can imagine wearing Lock Laces! I think my favorite outfit is this image… It is casual, but not athletic. It is iconic of what the younger generation’s lounge wear.
